Estas pocas líneas tratan de arrojar luz sobre García de Toledo y Osorio, una figura imprescindible para comprender el devenir del Mediterráneo del siglo XVI. Perteneciente a una de las más poderosas e ilustres familias nobles castellanas, desde muy joven entró en contacto con el ámbito naval sirviendo a su padre, virrey de Nápoles. Pudo participar en los más destacados combates navales de su época, adquiriendo una experiencia que pondría al servicio de la Monarquía Hispánica hasta acceder a las más altas dignidades, siendo nombrado capitán general del Mar en 1564. Como virrey de Sicilia se ocupó de levantar el sitio de Malta. Posteriormente, asesoró a don Juan de Austria y a Felipe II en cuantos asuntos de alta política y estrategia fue requerido, hasta su fallecimiento en 1578.

Belonging to one of the most powerful and illustrious Castilian noble families, from a very young age he came into contact with the naval field, serving his father, viceroy of Naples. He was able to participate in the most outstanding naval battles of his time, gaining experience that he would put at the service of the Hispanic Monarchy until reaching the highest dignities, being named General Captain of the Sea in 1564. As Viceroy of Sicily he was in charge of raising the siege from Malta. Subsequently, he advised Don Juan of Austria and Felipe II in as many matters of high politics and strategy as required, until his death in 1578.
