The records of the Augsburg merchant Lucas Rem (1481–1541) are one of the most noticed ego-documents of the early modern period. Nevertheless, their codicological and scriptural character has not attired much attention. Based on a precise analysis of the different fascicles of the codex this article develops new insights into the interplay between economies of writing, forms of self-fashioning and mercantile ways of living.
