Este artículo reconstruye el proceso de formación del mestizaje en Hispanoamérica. Analiza los aspectos demográficos, legales, sociales y culturales más significativos. Compara dos épocas diferentes: el siglo xvi y el siglo xviii. Igualmente, comenta las trayectorias y tendencias historiográficas más relevantes en relación con el tema abordado.

This article describes the process of formation of mestizaje in Hispanic America. It analyzes the most significant demographic, legal, social and cultural aspects. Also compares two different times: the 16th century and the 18th centuries. Finally, it comments the historiographic trends path most relevant to the topic of the article.
