    • This article analyzes the development and early years of the Maison du Brésil project at the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris, founded in 1959. The study builds on the assumptions that the project, envisioned by Itamaraty since the 1920s, was only able to proceed due to national development policies of the 1950s from the Brazilian government; at the time, the country sought to strengthen cultural diplomatic relations with France and also encourage international diplomacy between universities. Amidst the authoritarian context arising from the civil-military coup of 1964, this plan faced obstacles. The article uses a wide range of primary and secondary sources from Brazilian and French archives.
