Resumen de The Pliocene-Pleistocene boundary in Pakistan

A.A. Kureshy

  • The Plio-Pleistocene deposits of Pakistan are characterized by both marine and nonmarine strata. The marine deposits are exposed in the Baluchistan basin and are characterized by foraminiferal assemblages. The extinction of Globorotalia acostaensis var. pseudopima, Globigerina decoraperta, and Globigerinoides obliquus marked the Upper Pliocene, and first appearence of Globigerina calida, Globorotalia hirsuta, G. bermudezi, and Globigerinoides tenellus marked the Lower Pleistocene. The nonmarine deposits are widespread in the Lower and Upper Indus basins, which are characterized by mammalian fauna. The continental boundary of the Plio-Pleistocene is marked by the first appearence of Equus sivalensis in the Lower Pleistocene.
