    El patrimonio cultural como elemento intrínseco de la actividad humana, ha experimentado notables cambios en su percepción en función del contexto histórico en el que se genera. Es por ello que, aproximarse al papel que ha desempeñado a lo largo del tiempo, resulta fundamental para comprender su situación y determinar los retos a los que se enfrenta. El objetivo de este artículo es por un lado, analizar la evolución histórica de la percepción del patrimonio cultural y por otro, se va a reflexionar sobre la función que desempeña en la sociedad contemporánea.

    Cultural heritage as an intrinsic element of human activity has undergone notable changes in its perception depending on the historical context in which it is generated. That is why, approaching the role it has played over time, is essential to understand its situation and determine the challenges it faces. The objective of this article is, on the one hand, to analyze the historical evolution of the perception of cultural heritage and, on the other, to reflect on the role it plays in contemporary society.
