Resumen de El arte al servicio de la Orden de Malta en La Mancha: la decoración del presbiterio de la iglesia parroquial de San Juan Bautista de Consuegra en Toledo (1777-1784)

Con la presentación de los documentos reunidos aquí, identificados hace algunos años entre los fondos de una eminente institución pública, se tiene conocimiento de la gestación del “famoso” tabernáculo, de la mesa de altar y de la sillería del coro de la iglesia parroquial de San Juan Bautista de la villa toledana de Consuegra, diseñados en Madrid, en el último tercio del siglo XVIII, por el arquitecto Juan de Villanueva, así como de los cuadros que aún hoy presiden el testero del templo, atribuidos, hasta ahora, a los pintores Antonio Martínez Espinosa y José Beratón, además de otros trabajos de su interior.

Based on the documents presented here, which were discovered a few years ago among the collections of an eminent public institution, we can reconstruct the development of the “famous” tabernacle, the altar table and the choir stalls in the parish church of San Juan Bautista at Consuegra (Toledo). They were designed by the architect Juan de Villanueva in Madrid during the last third of the 18th century. The paintings that are still preserved on the front wall of the church, as well as other works belonging to it, t can now be attributed to the painters Antonio Martínez Espinosa and José Beratón.
