A number of smaller and larger foraminifera, ranging in age from Upper Permian to Upper Jurassic, have been found in samples from a well on the Ahmadi anticline, south west of Shiraz. Typical microfacies and microfossils are illustrated from rock thin-sections.
The lithological sequence in this well consists of some 8728 feet (2660 m) of Permian to Jurassic deposits overlain by more than 9486 feet (2891 m) of Cretaceous sediments. The average thickness of the deposits and the characteristic faunas assigned to the different Cretaceous stages in the present well are closely comparable with those in the Sarvestan wells (the Sarvestan wells reach down to the Lower Cretaceous, as reported in N.I.O.C. Paleont. Lab. publication No. 5).
