A note on Danian planktonic foraminiferida from the British Southern North Sea

  • A Danian fauna of planktonic Foraminiferida is figured and discussed from the British Sector of the North Sea. The fauna was extracted from a single borehole cuttings sample, representing a 40 feet interval, from Shell/Esso borehole 49/24-2. Globigerina daubjergensis Brönnimann, Globigerina eugubina Luterbacher and Premoli Silva, Globigerina fringa Subbotina, Globigerina triloculinoides Plummer, Globorotalia cf. compressa (Plummer), and Globorotalia pseudobulloides (Plummer) are discussed and figured. A zonal position is postulated for the cuttings sample on the basis of this fauna. A Maastrichtian and Middle Palaeocene planktonic Foraminiferida fauna is also present in the sample and the possibility that the whole fauna represents a reworked section is also discussed.
