Dinoflagellate cysts from Valanginian to Lower Hauterivian sections near Ait Hamouch, Morocco

  • 41 samples were studied from three sections in the Berriasian to lower Hauterivian near Ait Hamouch in South West Morocco. 92 dinoflagellate cyst taxa were recorded from the Valanginian to lower Hauterivian. The Berriasian was barren. Tentative correlation with zonal schemes from the North Atlantic and its margins shows that the actual state of our knowledge of a detaled lower Cretaceous dinoflagellate zonation is at present inadequate.

    Occisucysta brixii n.sp. and Occisucysta evittii (Dodekova 1969) Gitmez 1970 were described in detail. Of special interest is the interpretation of the intratabular pseudosutures and intratabular ornamentation.
