Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo, primera ciudad industrial de nueva creación en Andalucía

    El municipio de Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo (Córdoba) surge a principios del siglo XIX como resultado de la aparición de un nuevo tejido residencial necesario para acoger a los trabajadores de la Sociedad Minera y Metalúrgica de Peñarroya. Su situación es consecuencia de la actividad que comienza a desarrollarse en un enclave vacío en donde se encontraba la mina Terrible, hoy denominado antiguo Cerco Industrial. Estas edificaciones, que se establecen colindantes a una gran área minero-industrial, empiezan a dotarse de todo tipo de equipamientos para dar alojamiento a una nueva sociedad emergente multicultural que acogerá a inmigrantes de diferentes lugares del territorio nacional y europeo. Tras un reparto estratificado de construcciones repartidas en el lugar según las distintas clases sociales, en tan solo cinco décadas, se crea una ciudad de más de 35.000 habitantes. Mediante un estudio de sus condiciones excepcionales de surgimiento, formación y configuración se pretende poner en valor la nueva ciudad y evidenciar su singularidad dentro del urbanismo nacional. Para ello se ha realizado el estudio de sus características urbanas, arquitectónicas y sociales, y un análisis comparativo con otras poblaciones andaluzas derivadas de la industrialización. Como resultado se ha demostrado su condición única en Andalucía diferenciándola de otros poblados minero-industriales de menor entidad y de otras poblaciones ya existentes que experimentan un desarrollo sobresaliente. Todas estas circunstancias convierten a Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo en un núcleo urbano especial, cuyas características podrían llegar a situarla como la primera ciudad industrial de nueva creación en la historia reciente de España.

    The municipality of Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo (Córdoba) emerged at the beginning of the 19th century as a result of the creation of a new residential area needed to accommodate the workers of the Peñarroya Mining and Metallurgical Company.

    Its position is a consequence of the activity that began to develop in an empty enclave where the Terrible mine was located, today known as the former Cerco Industrial. These buildings, which are located next to a large mining-industrial area, are beginning to be equipped with all kinds of facilities to provide accommodation for a new multicultural society which will welcome newcomers from different parts of Spain and Europe. In the space of just five decades, after a careful distribution of the buildings on the site based on the different social classes, a city capable of accommodating more than 35,000 inhabitants was created. By studying the exceptional conditions of its emergence, formation and organisation, the intention is to highlight the value of the new city and highlight its individuality within national urban planning. This is why a study of its urban, architectural and social characteristics and a comparative analysis with other Andalusian towns arising from industrialisation has been carried out. Consequently, its unique status in Andalusia has been demonstrated, distinguishing it from other smaller mining-industrial towns and from other towns already in existence that are undergoing significant development.
