    This article analyzes the political and diplomatic initiatives of the United States government regarding the socalled "Goa case", namely in the months that preceded the military invasion of the Portuguese territories by the government of the Indian Union, in December 1961. It tries to explain the reasons that justified the American attitude towards this issue and also to evaluate its impact on the Portuguese-American relations. In its beginning, the article includes a brief study on the position of the United States towards Portuguese colonialism in the period after World War II.

    Cet article analyse Ie comportement politique et diplomatique du gouvernement nord-américain à propos de la question de Goa, pendant les moins antécédents de I' invasion militaire de la part de l'Union Indienne, en décembre 1961. On essaye aussi d'expliquer les raisons qui ont justifié Ie comportement nord-américain en relation à cette question, et au même temps évaluer son action sur les relations luso-américaines. Au commencement I'article fait une breve analyse de la position des Etats-Unis en relation à la question coloniale portugaise aprês la II Guerre Mondiale.
