  • Forty five living cosmopolitan, benthic testaceans taxa are recorded from the sediments of small ponds and a stream on the gardens of the Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne. Each type of sediment supports a unique combination of species. Material used in shell construction even within a species, is dependent upon the available sediments. Difflugia corona produce more spines when living in mud rather than in sand substrates. Only the proteinaceous species, Arcella discoides, bore epizoic diatoms.
