Orlando Ribeiro, Jorge Dias e José Cutileiro: Imagens do Portugal mediterrânico

    This article focuses on the different images of Mediterranean Portugal developed by three important Portuguese social scientist of the XX century: the geographer Orlando Ribeiro, the ethnologist Jorge Dias and the social anthropologist José Cutileiro. The article argues that these different images stem from different ideological attitudes toward the countryside, ranging from pastoral to counter-pastoral, and are also related to different ways of addressing the links between the countryside and national identity.

    Dans cet article nous abordons les différentes images du Portugal méditerranéen développées par trois importantes scientistes sociaux portugais du XX siêcle: le géographe Orlando Ribeiro, I' ethnologue Jorge Dias et I'anthropologue social José Cutileiro.

    L'auteur défend que ces images distinctes sont projetées à partir des différentes attitudes idéologiques référentes à la campagne, de la pastorale à la contre-pastorale, et aussi des formes diverses d'envisager la relation entre rural et identité nationale.
