Two groups of bricks made with clay and industrial waste, fired at 900 °C and 1000 °C,were immersed in a Na2SO4solution to evaluate their durability (ASTM C1012). For the elaboration of the first group of bricks, 70% clay (Ar) plus 20% sugar cane bagasseash (Cbc) plus 10% fly ash (Cv) were used; for the second, 50%Ar plus 40% Cbc plus10% Cv were used. 60 bricks of 140 x 70 x 25 mm (including controls) were made, fortheir firing a gas oven L.P. was used, the cooking time was 6.5 h. Five bricks per mix and per temperature, without exposure, were flexural tested (ASTM C67); the remainingbricks were dimensioned and immersed in the Na2SO4solution for 100 days. At the end of the exposure, the bricks were visually inspected, their dimensions were againrecorded and they were evaluated in flexion. The results indicate that the bricks of the first group, made with 70% Ar + 20% Cbc + 10% Cv and fired at 1000 °C, presentedless efflorescence, 0.15% expansion and their modulus of rupture was only reduced by5.5%. Cbc additions greater than 20% affect the durability of the bricks, regardless oftheir firing temperature.
