  In this article the two main authors of ICONCLASS project developed at Utrecht, Netherlands, present ICONCLASS, which is a system for computer edition of visual material. In December 1991, a CD-ROM version with printer's devices from the holdings of the Royal Library in The Hague, was published, allowing the final test of the system. This experience is reported here.lCONCLASS consists in a build-in system of icongraphic classification of images that uses nine main categories, and a IS-A hierarchy in the distribution of concepts into the categories, combined with a description by alphanumerical codes. A second component is ICONCLASSS browser that works out like a friendly user interface.

  Dans cet article les deux principaux responsables par le project ICONCLASS developé à Utrecht, Holande, presentent ce systéme pour I'édition de matériel visuel. Une version en CD-ROM des marques des imprimmeurs extrait du catalogue de La Librarie Royale, dans l'Hague, a été publié en Décembre 1991, et le résultat de ce test au systéme est reporté ici. ICONCLASS functione avec un systéme de classification d'images qui utilise neuf categories primordiaux, et une hiérarchie du type IS-A dans la distribution des concepts, cornbinées avec des codes alphanumeriques pour la recherche d'information. Le deuxieme componant de l'ICONCLASS c'est l'interface avec l'utilizateur - «Browser» - qui permet facilité I'usage.
