  Les grandes lignes qui tissent ce texte sont celles qui donnent corps au procês de sécularisation et de laicisation de la société portugaise, ilustré par l' étude des funérailles civiles, choix militant dune minorité déchristianisée, engagée à transformer ses idées en attitudes et en comportements collectifs. L' analyse des bloc ages et résistances (réligieuses, familliales et administratives) de cette campagne indique la raison de sa faible expréssion quantitati ve. Pourtant, les funérailles civiles ont été mises en scene en tant qu' événement-spêctacle et sa promotion s' inerit dans la lutte contre l'Église et la Monarchie, en faveur du respect par la liberté se pensée et de conscience. C' est pourquoi il faut souligner sa signification politique et idéologique dans la conjunture qui conduira à l'avenement de la République (1910) et à sa législation Jaique.

  This article examines the main tendencies which informed the process of secularization of the Portuguese society, here exemplified through the example of civil funerals - a militant option of a dechristianized minority which was engaged in transforming its ideas into collecti ve attitudes and patterns of behaviors. An analysis of the blockages and resistence (religious, family and administrative) encountered by this campaign explains its limited diffusion. However, civil funerals were organized as a spectacle and were part of a campaign against the Church and Monarchy and in favour of respect for freedom of thought and conscience. Hence their political and ideological significance in the conjuncture which would lead to the proclamation of the Republic (1910) and to the legislation separating Church and State.
