    This article follows the social trajectory of a New Christian merchant family from the 16th Century. In the mid-17th Century, some members of this family turned to military careers, while one was appointed Chief Cosmographer of the Realm. In 1716, a cousin of the latter was granted the habit of the Order of Christ in reward for his military services, but when he applied for admission was rejected because of his «impure blood». The main purpose of this article is to analyze the extent to which the family invested in this appointment, and how it attempted to overcome that rejection.

    Cet article analyse le parcours social d'une famille de marchands nouveaux-chrétiens des le XVIème siêcle.

    Au milieu de XVIIème, les descendents des Serrões Pimentéis se sont retournés vers l' Armée et un parmi eux a été nommé cosmographe principal du royaume.

    En 1716, un cousin du cosmographe a obtenu la grâce royale de l'habit de l' Ordre de Christe, mais il a fini par être refusé au Conseil des Ordres parce qu'il n'avait pas «pureté de sang».

    Le principal but de cet article est l' analyse de l' engagement de cette famille envers cet habit, c' est à dire, de quelle façon elle a cherché à dépasser cette réprobation.
