La revolución del cannabis: Cobertura en la prensa española

    El cannabis es la droga ilegal más consumida en el mundo y cada vez es más habitual su uso para fines terapéuticos y recreativos, sin tener en cuenta sus efectos adversos para la salud. Esta doble vertiente lleva años generando controversia entre sus detractores y los defensores de su legalización. El objetivo de este estudio es analizar el tratamiento que la prensa española dio al tema del cannabis durante el año 2019. Mediante la metodología del análisis de contenido, se analizaron 508 informaciones publicadas en los diarios generalistas de ámbito estatal españoles: La Razón, El Mundo, El País y ABC. Los resultados indican que el tema del cannabis forma parte de la agenda de los periódicos, aunque le otorgan un tratamiento informativo y con baja especialización. Destaca su tratamiento como droga y los aspectos negativos, seguido de investigación en el campo de la biotecnología y de líneas de negocio. De esta manera, la prensa española continúa con la línea informativa seguida con el cannabis en las últimas décadas, y se diferencia del tratamiento que realizan los medios en países donde están legalizando su utilización.

    Paste Cannabis is the most widely consumed illegal drug in the world and its use for therapeutic and recreational purposes is becoming increasingly common, regardless of its adverse health effects. This double aspect has been generating controversy for years in many countries around the world between its detractors and those in favour of its legalisation. The aim of this study is to analyze the treatment that the Spanish press gave to the cannabis issue during 2019. We content analyzed 508 news about cannabis published in the four most widely read general statewide newspapers in Spain: La Razón, El Mundo, El País, and ABC. The results show that the cannabis issue is on the agenda of the newspapers, although they give it an informative and low-specialization treatment. Its treatment as a drug and its negative aspects stand out, followed by research in the field of biotechnology and lines of business. In this way, the Spanish press continues with the informative line followed with cannabis in recent decades and differs from the treatment given by the media in countries where its use is being legalised.
