Resumen de New Hedbergella species from the Mid-Cretaceous Southeastern Nigeria

M. Oláníyì Odébòdé

  • Two new planktonic foraminiferal species, Hedbergella sundaypettersi n. sp. and H. dessauvagiei n. sp. are described from the Cenomanian-Turonian (Mid-Cretaceous) Odukpani Formation on the Calabar Flank, Southeastern Nigeria.

The two new forms have a highly restricted stratigraphic distribution within the formation. The planktonic foraminiferal assemblage with which they are associated dates the new species horizons of occurrence Upper-Middle to Uppermost Cenomanian. With their short stratigraphic range, the two species are regarded as good time markers on the flank.
