Resumen de Palynological investigation of some Upper Jurassic Black Shales from Northeast of Sana'A (Bani Hushaysh Area), Y.A.R.

  • Palynological investigation of the Upper Jurassic black shales in Bani Hushaysh area, has yielded 40 species referable to 15 genera of gymnospermous pollen grains. Pteridophytic spores are nearly absent from the studied samples. The most common components of the studied palynomorphs are the grains of coniferae. Pollen grains of the genera Inaperturopollenites, Araucariacites, Classopollis, Spheripollenites and Exesipollenites are the main constituent of the gymnospermous pollen grains.

    The absence of the pteridophytic spores in the studied samples is most probably due to local paleogeographic control during the Late Jurassic time. However, the disappearance of pteridophytic elements, beside the predominance of gymnospermous pollen grains specially Classopollis suggest a coastal environment and dry climatic condition.
