Resumen de Late Cenozoic non.marine ostracoda from Southern Idaho

F. M. Swain

  • A small fauna of 20 species of freshwater and brackish water? ostracodes from the Late Pliocene, Glenns Ferry Formation, of Owyhee County, Idaho, is described. Three of the genera and 13 of the species are new. The new genera are Oreanocypris, n. gen., Fusocandonopsis, m. gen., and Limnicytheropteron, n. gen. The new species are: Herpetocypris andersoni, n. sp.; Paracypria declivoides, n. sp.; Oreanocypris acutispinosus, n. gen., n. sp.; O. subtriangularis, n. sp.; O. ascioformis, n. sp.; Tuberocypris brighti, n. sp.; Tuberocyproides oreanensis, n. sp.; Candona catherinecreekensis, n. sp.; Fusocandonopsis owyheensis, n. gen., n. sp.; Ilyocyprimorpha variabilonodosa, n. sp.; Elkocytheheis postdorsoalata, n. sp.; Limnicytheropteron cephalotoidea, n. gen., n. sp., and L. typica, n. sp.

Although the assemblage is representative of a lacustrine environment, many of the species are uniquely ornamented and suggest elevated levels of dissolved solids. Similar assemblages occur in older lacustrine, brackish, saline or alkaline lake deposits in China. Several of the species or similar ones occur in the Salt Lake Group of northernmost Utah and southernmost Idaho.
