    Los DOAC representan una evolución en la anti-coagulación oral para prevención de tromboembolismo venoso (TEV) en cirugía ortopédica mayor de miembros inferiores, tratamiento del TEV en sus distintas fases y prevención de ictus cardioembólico por fibrilación auricular no valvular (FA). El presente artículo intenta disecar los diferentes aspectos a considerar en la elección de los agentes antitrombóticos disponibles en estas indicaciones, según diferentes aspectos clínicos y socio-económicos relevantes a la hora de decidir la terapéutica y los recursos para proveer adecuada información a los encargados de prescribirlos y a sus pacientes

    DOAC represent an evolution for oral anticoagulation in the prevention of venous thromboembolism in major orthopaedic surgery of the limbs, the treatment of the different phases of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism and the stroke prevention in non-valvular atrial fibrillation. This paper is aimed to dissect the different aspects to consider at the election of the antithrombotic agents, according to several clinical and socio-economical aspects leading to a better individualization of the treatment, and to provide useful resources for the practicing physician and his patients.
