    This article is dedicated to the analysis of the first institutions and mesures of social and working protection in Spain. It pretends to examine the historiography concerning this issue, bringing up interpretations coming from comparative history and sociology that have recently allowed the questioning of some assertions about the origins of the Spanish Social State. In the first place, it studies the Liberal Assitance, which includes the first manifestations of the turn towards the Protective State. Next, it deals with the period of the definitive institutionalisation of the social reform, in the first two decades of the XX century. In the third place, there is an exam of the acceleration of the political reforms, within the context of the Restoration social and political crisis (1917-1923). Finally, the article analyses some of the recurrent topics on the subject used by the Spanish bibliography, which have been put under revision by the last contributions.

    Cet article est destiné à rendre compte de I' état actueI des connaissances en ce qui concerne les premieres institutions et mesures de protection sociale et professionnelle en Espagne, en incorporant à l'analyse un certain nombre d'interprétations issues de la sociologie et de l'histoire comparée qui ont permis récemment de mettre en question des affirmations précédentes sur les origines de l'État social espagnol. On y étudie d'abord I' Assitance libérale, dans laquelle se sont encadrées les manifestations initiales du tournant vers I 'État protecteur. On aborde ensuite l'examen de la période de I' institutionalisation définitive de la réforme sociale pendant des deux premieres décades du XXème siêcle et de la phase d'accélération de la politique reformiste dans le contexte de la crise sociale et politique du régime de la Restauration (1917-1923). L' analyse de quelques idées réçues présentes dans l'historiographie espagnole en la matiere, idées mises à mal par les derniêres contributions dans le domaine concerné, clôt l'article.
