    Pernambuco had, since the beginning of colonization, an important role in the interior of Portuguese America. Soon were visible the complex tensions and conflicts in the region. In this text, the author reports the birth of Brazilian Empire in the intricate labyrinth of Lusitanian and Brazilian Lights's world, disclosing that it came from the restrict intellectual elite adaptation of an ideal. This ideal had to face, after 1822, with the reality of an amorphous nation, settled on slave work and lead by a ignorant and conservative economic elite.

    Pernambuco a eu, depuis le commencement de la colonisation, une place importante dans I' intérieur de I'Amérique portugaise. Depuis tôt on s'est aperçu des tensions et des conflits existants dans la région. Dans cet article I' auteur parle de la naissance de l'Empire du Brésil dans l'intérieur du monde des lumiêres luso-brésiliennes prouvant que celui-ci est le résultat de I' adaptation d'un idéal de la élite intellectuelle qui, aprês 1822, s' est confrontée avec la réalité de la nation sans forme, dépendante du travail des esclaves et gouvernée par une élite économique ignorante et traditionaliste.
