    In this text begins the study of the "information networks" set by the Portuguese State in his colonies to know, accurately and scientifically, the different parts of the Empire. The intention is to prove that such networks were not only composed by scientist, astronomers, engineers and surgeons, but also by clerks that considerate the gathering of scientific information as a matter of his own competency. The diffusion of pamphlets and books to pass among the population new experiences and the incentive to the use of new agricultural and manufacturing techniques were equally made through them.

    Dans cette étude on commence l'investigation des «réseaux d'information» que I 'État Portugais a fondés dans ses colonies pour connaitre, d'une forme précise et scientifique, les différents régions de I'Empire. On prétend prouver que ces équipes étaient constituées non seulement par des scientistes, des astronornes, des ingénieurs, des chirurgiens, mais aussi par des fonctionnaires qui considéraient Ie rassemblement de l'information scientifique comme une affaire de leur compétence. C'étaient eux aussi qui faisaient Ie diffusion des tracts et des livres qui se destinaient à transmettre aux populations les expériences et les connaissances agricoles et manufacturieres.
