    En este trabajo se presenta una exploración por el territorio del lenguaje humano, tratando de indagar acerca de su naturaleza, su origen y su desarrollo. Se delimita la noción de 'lenguaje' destacando el hecho de ser una capacidad del ser humano con una función mediadora que presenta una serie de características que reclaman un tratamiento multidisciplinar. Se examinan los distintos modelos de esa capacidad humana y se hacen converger en un marco de referencia adecuado que permite abordar la aparición del lenguaje en la historia evolutiva de la especie. Se concluye poniendo de manifiesto el carácter natural y especializado de la facultad humana del lenguaje, a la vez que su especificidad como propiedad singular de la especie humana.

    This paper presents an exploration of the territory of human language, trying to inquire about its nature, its origin and its development. The notion of 'language' is delimited, highlighting the fact that it is a human capacity with a it mediating function that presents a series of characteristics that call for a multidisciplinary treatment. The di erent models of this human capacity are examined and they are made to converge in an adequate frame of reference that allows addressing the appearance of language in the evolutionary history of the species. It concludes by highlighting the natural and specialized character of the human faculty of language, as well as its specificity as a singular property of the human species.
