Some "Porostromata" algae, an attempt toward their classification

  • Statistical analysis of fossil and recent representativs of the genus Rivularia is used to present specific and generic criteria for distinguishing fossil taxa of the Cyanophyta Phylum and from the other groups.

    The assignement of the genera Girvanella, Rivularia, Apophoretella, Polytrichella, Paraortonella and Antonella to families of Phylum Cyanophyta is discussed.

    The genera Garwoodia, Hedstroemia, Cladogirvanella, Scotlandella, Bevocastria, Pseudogirvanella to families of Phylum Chlorophyta is proposed.

    The new taxa Antonella otti n. sp., Polytrichella firma n. sp., Pratumiella fastigiata n. gen., n. sp., P. ghimbavi n. sp. and Priskaiella n. gen. with two species P. magna (Johnson) and P. babai n. sp. are introduced.
