Priest Manuel Ricci's attempt to publish in 1810 an anti-napoleonic leaflet, of which he was the author, and where Napoleon was identified as the antiChrist, found persistent opposition from the Royal Censor, the Oratory priest Lucas Tavares. In this article, the author analyses the theological and ideological fondaments of the leaflet from priest Ricci, as well as the content of the debate that opposed the two clergyman about the comprehension of the apocalipse.

From this debat emerged not only two distinct theological positions, but also two different conceptions on royal and Papal power.
