La representación fílmica del sexo en la vejez: un estudio de casos en el cine contemporáneo

    ¿El erotismo y el deseo sexual se extinguen con la edad? Si se toma como referencia el cine, la respuesta es un sí casi rotundo a juzgar por las escasas ocasiones en las que este medio se ha permitido, a lo largo de sus más de 120 años de historia, romper con un tabú cultural tan arraigado. Sin embargo, en los últimos tiempos llama la atención el estreno de un buen número de filmes que no solo incluyen como parte de sus tramas la sexualidad en la vejez, sino que la muestran de manera cruda, poniendo ante los ojos del público una realidad todavía muy incómoda pese a que el discurso institucional contempla el sexo entre las claves del envejecimiento activo que promueve. En esta dirección, el presente artículo presenta los resultados de un estudio exploratorio sobre la representación que el cine del siglo XXI hace de la sexualidad en la tercera edad. Para ello, se lleva a cabo un recorrido por distintas películas trazando una panorámica general y posteriormente se realiza un análisis en profundidad de dos de los filmes más transgresores respecto al objeto de estudio: En el séptimo cielo (Andreas Dresen, 2008) y El diablo entre las piernas (Arturo Ripstein, 2019).

    Do eroticism and sexual desire die out with age? If we look at what cinema reveals, the answer is an (almost) unequivocal yes. This deep-rooted cultural taboo is also presented in cinema, and exemplified by the few occasions in which films have broken such taboo over its more than 120 years of history. However, it is remarkable the recent increase of films that not only include sexuality in elderly as part of their plots, but also show it in a crude manner. They portray a reality that is still very uncomfortable for the audience, despite the institutional discourse which includes sex as part of the active aging that is in the agenda. In this direction, this article shows the results of an exploratory study on the representation of sexuality in the elderly in 21st century cinema. To achieve that, we studied several films, tracing a general overview first, and then carrying out a comprehensive analysis of two of the most transgressive films with respect to the object of study: En el séptimo cielo (Andreas Dresen, 2008) and El diablo entre las piernas (Arturo Ripstein, 2019).
