Resumen de New Palaeocene to Miocene genra and species of ostracoda from DSDP sites in the North Atlantic

Twenty-three new species and five new genera of benthonic Ostracoda are described from Palaeogene and Miocene sediments from four DSDO Sites in the North Atlantic. The five new genera are the cytheraceans Profundobythere, Mayburya (Bythocytheridae), Bathypterocythereis, Legitimocythere (Trachyleberididae) and the bairdiacean Abyssobairdia (Bairdiidae). Legitimocythere replaces the two nomina nuda “genera” “Hyphalocythere” and “Thalassocythere”, invalidly introduced as “suggested” names by Benson in 1976 and 1977 respectively. Other invalid names introduced by Benson are also rationalised: “Suhmicythere” of Benson 1974 and “Neoatlanticythere” of Benson 1977 are shown to be synonymous and are herein subsumed within Dutoitella Dingle, 1981. Another illegitimate taxon, “Oxycythereis” of Benson 1974, is shown to be a synonym of, and is subsumed within, Pennyella Neale 1974.
