The return of metaphysics

    Este ensayo tiene como objetivo situar las coordenadas históricas y conceptuales del llamado “retorno de la metafísica” en la filosofía del siglo XXI. En primer lugar, es muestra la necesidad de comprender el sentido de los intentos de superación de la metafísica en las tradiciones continental y analítica durante el siglo XX. En segundo lugar, se realiza una aclaración terminológica sobre la oposición entre filosofía y ciencia, escenario en el que surgen tanto el deseo de superación como el de retorno de la metafísica. Por último, se teoriza la importancia del pensamiento metafísico en el marcos de las nuevas filosofías realistas con la finalidad de proponer una recuperación del motivo metafísico de la filosofía desde una perspectiva que no contraponga ciencia y filosofía, sino que sea capaz de responder a las exigencias de realidad y objetividad de una sociedad determinada, en gran medida, por el desarrollo de la ciencia. En este sentido, una recuperación de la metafísica debería enmarcarse en el proyecto de un realismo contextual.

    The purpose of this essay is to situate the historical and conceptual coordinates of the so-called "return of metaphysics" in twenty-first century philosophy. Firstly, it shows the need to understand the meaning of the attempts to overcome metaphysics in the continental and analytic traditions during the 20th century. Secondly, a terminological clarification is made about the opposition between philosophy and science, a scenario in which both the desire to overcome and the return of metaphysics emerge. Finally, the importance of metaphysical thought in the framework of the new realist philosophies is theorised with the aim of proposing a recovery of the metaphysical motif of philosophy from a perspective that does not oppose science and philosophy, but is capable of responding to the demands of reality and objectivity of a society determined, to a large extent, by the development of science. In this sense, a recovery of metaphysics should be framed within the project of a contextual realism.
