    Having only as a base the varied work of D. Francisco Manuel de Melo we intend to answer the question: what defines the noble as a noble in the middle of the 17th century? The obtained answer in this first approach of the theme shows how the noble is a different man because of what the blood does to him and because of the condition, wich blood involves, that compels him. A man who lives in a present time, with the weight of what memory retained of its ancestors and now is going to retain about himself, a man whose being is extra time based on groups, ancestry and house, obliging to attitudes and values, the whole of virtues.

    N' ayant comme appui que l'oeuvre variée de D. Francisco Manuel de Melo, on a l'objectif de répondre à Ia question: qu 'est-ce qui définit le noble en tant que noble en plein XVIIc siecle? Laréponse à ce premier abordage du theme montre comment Ie noble est un homme différentà cause du sang etdes obligations que ses qualités impliquent. Un homme qui vit le temps présent avec ce que la mémoire a retenu de ses ancêtres et ce qu'elle retiendra de lui-même; un homme dont l'être devient un temps extraordinaire fixé en groupes, lignage et maison, en obligeant à des attitudes et des valeurs, l'ensemble des vertus.
