  • In the knowledge society, creative spaces haveevolved into multiple configurations. FabLabs and makerspacesoriginated from urban contexts and are mostly publicly fundedand concentrated in those settings. Rural fablabs andmakerspaces have the possibility of fostering new dynamics inrural places trying to gather new communities of makers andreceiving visitors. So, our challenges are: What canmakerspaces do to support tourism? How can tourism improvethe sustainability and visibility of rural makerspaces? How canwe manage successfully host-urban visitors -rural communityrelations? Buinho Fablab aims to be an inspiring place thatpromotes creativity, collaboration and innovation in ruralareas.This article analysis how Buinho FabLab is building anetwork of creative spaces, in the historic village of Messejana,offer different possibilities for collaboration andexperimentation with artists, makers, designers, digital nomads,researchers, and is becoming fundamental for localdevelopment, attracting talent and increasing connectivity inrural territories.
