Resumen de Implementation of Smart Gasifier Systems in African Villages

Ali Al Jaliel, José Antonio Hernández Torres, María Reyes Sánchez Herrera, Juan Pérez Torreglosa

  • Electricity is key in having smart and efficient city. Thus, this paper presents a study to approach an off-gridelectrification system in African rural areas using a gasifiersystem to create smart mini grids. For this purpose, this workstudies the application of the aforementioned system to powerdifferent applications. A rural industry, a market and anacademical campus. These applications represent a firstapproach to develop smart grids which are the first step of smartcities development. Currently, many people burn the biomassdirectly in order to obtain heat. This is dangerous and couldresult in deaths due to air pollution. The usage of agriculturalwaste in the electrification could prove a circular and efficientmethod. The biomass will be used to produce three main outputsnamely, heat, electricity and biochar where biochar can be usedas a fertilizer. The gasifier is connected to clean/ cooling systemand to a syngas generator. These generators can ramp up fastand generate energy when needed however, peaks may overloadthe system. The restrictions can be overpassed with controllerswith other potential energy sources.
