  • Resumen
    • The need of implementing smart cities represent aparadigm shift in terms of energy production and consumption. In that sense, current energy consumers will become energyconsumers and energy producers. However, if current consumersare required to become energy producers, the implementation ofmicrogrids based on Renewable Energy Sources (RES) is needed.Nevertheless, the stochasticity of the RES makes the use of energystorage systems (ESS) necessary. Furthermore, as the complexityof the management of a microgrid increases considerablydepending on the number of households and elements that makeit up, energy management systems (EMS) are required. To assistin decision making of EMS, mathematical models of ESS are anuseful tool. In that sense, this paper presents a new simplifiedmathematical model that allows to know the battery voltageduring not only charge and discharge cycles, but also duringquiescent states, so it can address different energy managementsystems into the Res-based microgrid.
