La formación de escuadrones en los tratados militares españoles de la decimosexta centuria

    Este artículo analiza la manera en que se organizaban los escuadrones en el siglo XVI, a la luz de la información contenida en las obras de autores militares que escribieron durante esa centuria. Después de pasar revista a los datos que facilitan sobre la definición de escuadrón y las principales armas que llevaban los soldados, se trata de la figura del sargento mayor, como responsable de constituir aquella formación. Más adelante se abordan tanto el procedimiento para conformar esta estructura como los tipos utilizados por nuestros ejércitos en ese periodo histórico. Acabada la exposición de esta materia, se añaden otros dos capítulos que guardan relación con la forma en que operaban los escuadrones en la marcha y en la batalla y con la disposición seguida a la hora de alojarlos.

    This article analyzes the way squadrons were organized in the sixteenth century, based on the information contained in the books of military authors who wrote during that century. After reviewing the data provided on the definition of squadron and the main weapons that the soldiers carried, it deals with the figure of the sergeant major as the person responsible for ordering to fall in the formation. Later on, it is discused both the procedure to join this structure and the types used by our armies in that historical period.

    Once the narration is finished, there are two other chapters added that main aim aims at the way in which the squadrons operated in the march and in the battle and with the disposition followed when housing them.
