L’autore integra e corregge i suoi precedenti contributi verghiani, riconducendoli a una organica linea interpretativa, che segue il progressivo rincaro dell’originario proposito dello scrittore di alleggerire le proprie responsabilità sulla finzione romanzesca. Dall’espediente estrinseco del narratore fittizio e da una occasionale reticenza, si passa così alla reticenza metodica di una narrazione interamente fondata sulle parole e sulle percezioni dei personaggi e capace di valorizzare il non detto delle implicazioni, allo stesso modo in cui sfida l’immaginazione a contestualizzare ciò che racconta e l’opera di cui fa parte

The ‘rusticana’ imagination. Recognize the unknown · The author integrates and corrects his previous contributions by Verga, bringing them back to an organic line of interpretation, which follows the progressive increase in the original intention of the writer to lighten his responsibilities on fictional fiction. From the extrinsic expedient of the fictitious narrator and from an occasional reticence, we thus pass to the methodical reticence of a narrative entirely based on the words and perceptions of the characters and capable of enhancing the unspoken of the implications, in the same way in which it challenges the imagination to contextualize what it tells and the work it belongs to.
