Resumen de Philoneptunus, a new Ostracod Genus from the Cainozoic of Australasia.

Robin C. Whatley, Karin Millson, M.A. Ayress

  • Nineteen species of the new genus Philoneptunus are considered. Of these, two species, including the type species, have been previously described. Six species are left in open nomenclature due to inadequate numbers of preservation and 11 species are described as new. The species are: Philoneptunus gravezia (Hornibrook, 1952), P. planalta (Hornibrook, 1952, and the new species P. alagracilis, P. crassimurus, P. eocenicus, P. paragravezia, P. hornibrooki, P. paeminosus, P. reticulatus, P. swansoni, P. tricostatus, P. praeplanaltus, and P. eagari. The genus is shown to range from late Cretaceous to Recent, to be confined to New Zealand and adjacent offshore areas and to occur in both deep and shallow water.
