Resumen de Strategic voting in proportional representation systems: evidence from a natural experiment

Ignacio Lago Peñas

  • I rely on data from a natural experiment in Spain to produce an unbiased estimate of the extent of strategic voting in multi-member districts. I also show that voters fully adapt to the different incentives provided by distinctive electoral systems within countries since the first election and then that they only behave strategically when the opportunity do so is present. That is, contamination effects do not exist when voting strategically.
