Cultura como Ciência? Da Consolidação do Discurso Antropológico à Institucionalização da Disciplina

    Dans cet article, l'auteur fait Ie bilan de la production scientifique réalisée au Portugal et intégrée dans un discours de perspectivation anthropologique. En analisant les versants hérités de l'iluminisme et, ensuite, les grands courants du xrx siecle, dominés par la perspective romantique, on trouve, au xx siecle, une forte accentuation dans Ie sens de l'approche cuíturene, superposée à cene de la société. Selon l'auteur, cette évolution doit être interpretée dans Ie cadre plus large des conditions sociales dans lesquelles on produit science; l'apparition, la consolidation et la postérieure autonomie institutionelle de I'Anthropologie culturelle/sociale (ethnologie) réflet ainsi un processus ou on peut lire l'évolution de la situation historique portugaise.

    In the present article the author looks at Portuguese scientific production from a standpoint of anthropological concern. Analysing the characteristics inherited from Englightenment and subsequently providing a framework to the great currents of the last century, deeply dominated by the romantic perspective, we find, in the 20th Century, a strong bias on the cultural approach, which overlaps the social approach. In the author's opinion, this evolution should be interpreted within the broader scope of the social conditions under which Science is produced; the emergence, consolidation and posterior institutional autonomy of cultural/social Anthropology (Ethnology) thus reflects a process in which one may percieve the current evolution of the Portuguese historical situation.
