    El Virus de Inmunodeficiencia Humana (VIH) se ha extendido desde los años 80, infectando a 80 millones de personas desde su inicio. Es importante un diagnóstico temprano y un tratamiento eficaz en estos pacientes. Las personas que contraen el virus tienen debilitado el sistema inmune, estando en riesgo de adquirir otras enfermedades oportunistas y/o neoplasias. Existen diferentes tipos de tratamientos siendo los más eficaces los antirretrovirales, ninguno de ellos curativo hasta el momento. La terapia actual consiste en la combinación de 3 o 4 de estos fármacos, que actúan en distintas fases de la infección. La enfermería tendrá una gran implicación en la prevención de esta enfermedad, además de participar durante toda la evolución del paciente con VIH.

    The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) has spread since the ‘80s, infecting 80 million people since its beginning. An early diagnosis and an effective treatment are important for these patients. The people who contract this virus have their immune system weakened, being in danger of acquiring other opportunistic diseases or neoplasias. There are different kinds of treatments, being the most effective being the antiretrovirals, none of them curative until this moment. The current therapy consists of the combination of 3 or 4 of these medicines, which work in different stages of the infection. Nursing will have a great involvement in the prevention of this illness, in addition to participating during all the evolution of the HIV patient.
