Non-discrimination and equality of women and girl children in all aspects of life is something that is far from achieved in all continents and at all latitudes, although international human rights law has provided over the years a complete corpus of norms establishing such principles. This article tries to address the challenges and achievements in the process of enhancement of women’s rights and women’s empowerment in the African continent, analyzing some of the specific legal features of that area.
