The Cenomanian biostratigraphy of Israel shelf deposits, mostly represented by the Negba Formation in central and southern Israel, is reviewed using planktonic foraminifers. Age of the formation is Early to Middle Cenomanian (pro-parte) represented by the Rotalipora globotruncanoides/R. (Thalmanninella) brotzeni zone. In the studied area, this zone is subdivided in two using last appearance of Favusella washitensis.
The overlying Daliyya Formation is of latest Cenomanian to Middle Turonian age (Whiteinella archaeocretacea and Helvetoglobotruncana helvetica zones), implying presence of a stratigraphic gap between the two formations. Extent of the gap and its possible causes are discussed.
Taxonomic notes and SEM micrographs of selected specimens are included.
