    El poble santamarier ha tingut durant pràcticament tota la seva historia un pensament molt conservador, que es va reflectir durant la transició democràtica, EI canvi d'un pensament conservador a un pensament d'esquerres es dona molt lentament i molt tard, essent el nostre poble un dels mes endarrerits a realitzar el canvi, igual que el municipi de Llubí, entre d'altres. EI punt d'inflexió de la historia de la transici6 democràtica es a l'any 1990, amb la moció de censura, moment essencial de la nostra historia, ja que per primer cop se'n presentava una i, ames, aquesta va sortir victoriosa llevant el batle Estarellas. També s'estudien les eleccions de 1991, les primeres en que va triomfar el pensament d'esquerres que ha perdurat fins avui.

    Santa Maria people have always had a very conservative thinking throughout their history, and this was reflected in the fact that the democratic transition as well as the change in thoughts from conservative thinking to a left-wing thought occurred very slowly and very late, being our town one of the most delayed in making the change as well as the municipality of Llubf among others. The turning point in the history of the democratic transition is in 1990 with the motion of censure, an essential moment in our history, presented by the parties for the first time, emerging victorious and taking the power away from Estarellas. The 1991 elections were the frrst ones where the left thinking succeeded, and since that victory took place, left parties have always been ruling the Santa Maria city council.
