Resumen de The Planktonic foraminifer Cassigerinella Winniana (Howe) from Southerm Australia: Comments on its lineage recognition

Qianyu Li, Brian McGowran

  • Typical specimens of Cassigerinella winniana (Howe) from southern Australia show two distinct stages of growth: a uniserially planispiral early stage and a biserially enrolled later stage. These features repudiate a recent speculation among some specialists that the species was derived from the biserial chiloguembelinids. Instead, this evidence supports the classical view that the planispiral pseudohastigerinids were likely its ancestor. A probable evolutionary relationship between Pseudohastigerina micra, Cassigerinella winniana and Praetenuitella insolita is discussed.
