  • Resumen
    • The comparative and statistic study between recent Rivularia species from the different biotopes and the R. haematites of Pleistocene demonstrates the significance of morphology and pattern of distribution of filaments versus tubes in the horizontal plane (cross section).

The «differences» between tube diameter of fossil species and the diameter of filaments of recent Rivularia species are minimal, being not an impediment for the distinction of species. A number of specific criteria have been suggested as taxonomic importance indifferent of recent or fossil statute.

Some taxonomical considerations among Phanerozoic taxa of filamentous calcareous algae already described point the pathway to estimate the real value of the original description and of their systematic affiliation.
