Resumen de El personal empleado en la construcción naval en la Atenas del siglo V a.C.

En la primera mitad del siglo V a.C. Atenas apuesta por la creación de una flota estatal compuesta principalmente por trirremes, acelerando así un proceso iniciado ya a finales del siglo anterior. El incremento de una producción intensa de barcos de guerra, supervisada y administrada por la polis, conlleva un aumento sensible en la cantidad de información referida a la construcción y decoración naval, así como a los trabajadores en ellas implicados. Este artículo pretende identificar y sistematizar los datos relativos a las diferentes categorías profesionales involucradas en la edilicia naval, estableciendo cuáles eran las funciones de cada una de ellas y quiénes las integraban.

In the first half of the 5th cent. BC, Athens speeded up the construction of triremes owned by the polis within a process that had actually begun by the end of the previous century. This situation resulted in an increase of the information concerning shipbuilding and ships’ decoration in Athens; at the same time, there is also a growth of data referred to the workers employed in such activities. This paper is aimed at identifying the different workers involved in the construction and decoration of the ships, examining their functions, and determining what were their economic and social conditions.
