Resumen de Las revistas históricas y América Latina: una perspectiva europea/inglesa

Este artículo se propone estudiar cómo se ha trabajado la historiografía de América Latina en las revistas históricas británicas, principalmente en Past & Present, y en las revistas latinoamericanistas Bulletin of Latin American Research y Journal of Latin American Studies, publicaciones que muestran bien las principales tendencias historiográficas sobre América Latina. Luego de este análisis, parece que el reciente giro cultural, muy marcado en los EE.UU. y que se ve en la Hispanic American Historical Review, es menos obvio en Gran Bretaña. Las explicaciones posibles tienen que ver tanto con la historiografía, como con las distintivas culturas nacionales, vistas en el afán que existe en EE.UU. por la “política de la identidad”. Por último, se considera el papel de estas revistas en la producción historiográfica, ejemplificado en el debate mexicano entre Enrique Krauze y Roberto Breña.

This article analyzes how the historiography of Latin America has been treated in the British historical journals, mainly in Past & Present, and in the Latin Americanist journals, Bulletin of Latin American Research and Journal of Latin American Studies, publications which present well the main historiographical trends in Latin America. This analysis indicates that the recent cultural turn, very notable in the United States and which can be seen in the Hispanic American Historical Review, is less obvious in Great Britain. Possible explanations have to do both with the historiography and with the distinctive national cultures, given the emphasis in the United States of “policies of identity”. Finally, the role of these journals in historiographical production is considered, using the Mexican debate between Enrique Krauze and Roberto Breña as an.

Este artigo propõe estudar como vem sendo trabalhada a historiografia da América Latina nas revistas históricas britânicas, principalmente em Past & Present e nas revistas latino-americanistas Bulletin of Latin American Research e Journal of Latin American Studies, publicações que mostram bem as principais tendências historiográficas sobre a América Latina. Após essa análise, parece que o recente giro cultural, muito marcado nos EUA e que se vê na Hispanic American Historical Review, é menos óbvio na Grã-Bretanha. As possíveis explicações se referem tanto à historiografia quanto às distintivas culturas nacionais, vistas na ânsia que existe nos EUA pela “política da identidade”. Por último, considera-se o papel dessas revistas na produção historiográfica, exemplificado no debate mexicano entre Enrique Krauze e Roberto Breña.
