El propósito de este artículo consiste en mostrar cómo el subgénero artístico de la vanitas influyó en los textos de autores como Lope de Vega, Miguel de Mañara o Francisco de Quevedo, debido a la utilización de los mismos símbolos de índole macabra. Se indagará en el origen del sentido religioso del tópico vanitas vanitatum y la presencia de la muerte en esta época, para terminar comparando las obras literarias con las pinturas de artistas como Antonio de Pereda, Ignacio de Ries o Pieter Brueghel el Viejo

The purpose of this article is to show how the artistic sub-genre of vanitas influenced the texts of authors such as Lope de Vega, Miguel de Mañara or Francisco de Quevedo through the use of the same macabre symbols. We will investigate the origin of the religious sense of the topic vanitas vanitatum and the presence of death in this period; and we will finish by comparing the literary works to the paintings by artists such as Antonio de Pereda, Ignacio de Ries and Pieter Brueghel the Elder.
